What Are Common Hemorrhoid Treatment Options?

Common hemorrhoid symptoms include bleeding, itching, swelling and discomfort around the anal cavity. Hemorrhoids are a very common problem and most of the time, the problems will go away on their own, depending on their severity. In extreme cases, medication or even surgical procedures may be needed. If you are suffering from hemorrhoid problems, you are undoubtedly seeking relief and fortunately in most cases the treatments are non-invasive and non-surgical.
Here is an overview of hemorrhoid treatment options:
• If you are experiencing mild discomfort, you can try over-the-counter ointments, medications, creams, etc. Any product that contains hydrocortisone or witch hazel is very helpful. If nothing else, these products or herbal remedies will provide you with temporary relief. If the problems return in the future, you can try making healthier lifestyle changes, such as dieting and increasing your water intake.
• Sometimes, in external cases, a blood clot can form. When this happens, you need to visit a doctor and request that it be removed---especially if you experience any severe pain or bleeding. Fortunately, a physician can easily remove the blood clot with a simple precision, after which you will feel immediately relief.
• In more persistent, painful cases of hemorrhoids, your doctor may provide you with a treatment such as rubber band ligation, injection, or coagulation, which is a technique involving infrared light. In extreme cases, a surgical procedure may be needed, such as stapling or hemorrhoidectomy. Surgical procedures for extreme hemorrhoid cases sometimes require an overnight stay at the hospital.
• Some people try natural remedies. While they can (and usually do) provide relief, sometimes that relief is only temporary and further treatment is required. Some natural treatments include drinking a cup of boiled chamomile, ice packs, Venapro, garlic, cranberry poultice, and products with Aloe vera or witch hazel.
